Dear friends and colleagues,
it is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our good friend and teacher Andrea Vitturi. Andrea Vitturi was an exceptional person, scientist and professor, under many respects.
He possessed a vast knowledge of science and physics in particular, he had an uncommonly deep mathematical vision and a quick insight for simple solutions to complex problems. He made an art of these virtues, not only in conceiving new ideas, but also in communicating them to others in writings and orally. He was in fact an impeccable teacher, whose explanations were always logical and clear, because he had an enviable clarity of thought. His human qualities, if possible, surpassed his scientific ones, he was calm, serene, and jovial. He was humble, kind and very reserved in his ways, a true gentleman. He knew how to encourage his collaborators to bring out their qualities. He was respectful of others, who never failed to listen, and of the ideas of others which he criticized, if necessary, with intellectual honesty and an open mindset.
We must remember at least his fundamental and original contributions in the field of nuclear reactions with quantum and semiclassical techniques, in which he excelled worldwide, in studies on pairing interactions, clusters, giant resonances, nuclear fusion, symmetries and quantum phase transitions.
Andrea leaves behind a beautiful family, wife, son and three adorable grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him, starting from his fellow scientists who respected him with deep admiration.
Lorenzo, Silvia and friends
