Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the 2nd Circular for the international
workshop and town meeting on the extension project of the J-PARC Hadron
Experimental Facility (HEF-ex WS/Town-Meeting 2025), which will be held
at the RIKEN Wako Campus on Friday and Saturday, September 26–27, 2025.
If you would like to stay in RIKEN accommodation and apply for domestic
travel support, please register as early as possible using the following
form:
https://kds.kek.jp/event/55177/
In addition, the minutes of the 1st town meeting, held in February this
year, are now available at the following link:

We look forward to having further active discussions at the town meeting
in September.
Best regards,
Workshop organizing committee

International Workshop and Town Meeting

**************************************************************
This is the second announcement of the "International Workshop and Town
Meeting on the Extension Project for the J-PARC Hadron Experimental
Facility (HEF-ex WS/Town-Meeting 2025)", to be held at RIKEN Wako Campus
on September 26–27, 2025. The event is organized by the Hadron Hall User
Association (HUA) and supported by J-PARC Center, KEK Theory Center,
RCNP, QNSI-UT, and RIKEN Nishina Center.
The extension project of the Hadron Experimental Facility has been
extensively discussed with the nuclear and high-energy physics
communities worldwide through a series of the HEF-ex workshops, with the
goal of refining and advancing the project. This project has long been
strongly supported by the communities, and dedicated efforts have been
made by the HUA task force over the years. As a result, the project was
designated as a top-priority future initiative in KEK-PIP2022 (Project
Implementation Plan) and included in the KEK mid-term plan (FY2022–2026)
for future budgeting.
However, due to recent increases in construction costs, an immediate
launch of the project remains difficult. In response, this upcoming
workshop and town meeting aim to further polish the scientific case and
explore feasible paths toward its early realization.
During the workshop, we will broadly discuss the physics program at the
Hadron Experimental Facility, covering both current activities and
future opportunities that will be enabled by the extension. In the town
meeting, we will present staging plans - developed based on previous
community input - and seek broad feedback to guide the next steps.
Scientific discussions in the workshop will focus on physics topics that
bridge the present and future of the Hadron Experimental Facility at
J-PARC. To this end, the program will cover a wide range of subjects in
flavor, hadron, and nuclear physics, involving both experimental and
theoretical studies currently underway at the facility, including:
- S = –1 and –2 hypernuclei
- Baryon-baryon and meson-baryon interactions
- Mesons in nuclei
- Baryon spectroscopy
- Kaon rare decays
- Muon-to-electron conversion
- Future facilities and instrumentation
Further information on the extension project and past workshops can be
found on the HUA website:
